California African American Museum

California African American Museum

Founded in 1977, CAAM was the first African American art, history and culture museum fully supported by a US state. It began operating in 1981 and moved into its permanent Exposition Park building in 1984. Nearby are the Natural History Museum and Science Center, which can be combined as time and interest allow.

The museum displays modern and contemporary arts of African American artists alongside historical objects, documents, and exhibitions.
