Gan Garoo at Nir David: Kangaroos, Parrots and a Green Maze

Our family visit to Gan Garoo, including kangaroos, colorful parrots, peacocks, the lake and a surprisingly tricky maze.

Gan Garoo at Nir David: Kangaroos, Parrots and a Green Maze

Gan Garoo is an Australian wildlife park where visitors can experience animals at close range rather than only viewing them through a distant enclosure. Kangaroos are the main attraction, but we also enjoyed the green grounds, peacocks wandering across the lawns, the lake and the relaxed atmosphere.

What makes Gan Garoo special?

This is an Australian-themed park rather than a general zoo. Its animals and activities focus on species associated with Australia, particularly the kangaroo habitat that visitors can enter. During our visit, we even saw a joey peeking out of its mother's pouch.

Some animal-feeding encounters are offered under staff guidance. We especially enjoyed feeding the colorful parrots. Do not bring food from home or feed any animal unless the staff explicitly permits it.

The maze and the rest of the park

The plant maze was one of our favorite surprises. It looked easy from the outside, but finding the exit took us longer than expected and became one of the funniest parts of the visit. Paths, lawns and seating areas around the park make it possible to slow down rather than rush between exhibits.

Gan Garoo is particularly suitable for families, though adults who enjoy wildlife can have a good time too. Leave enough time for the small encounters that happen along the way.

Our verdict

Our visit was green, calm and genuinely enjoyable. The kangaroos are the headline attraction, but the parrots, peacocks, lake and maze turn the park into a complete family outing rather than a single-animal stop.
