Electricity in Georgia: Plugs, Adapters and Rural Charging

Georgia commonly uses C and F connections with approximately 220V, 50Hz mains. Many slim two-round-pin chargers fit directly, while other plug types require suitable adapters. Equipment needing earth must keep that protection.

Recognising C and F

Type C is the slim two-round-pin plug on many small chargers. A Type F outlet is round and recessed with side earth contacts. The pictures illustrate the differences.

An older unearthed socket does not gain earth protection through an adapter. Equipment that requires earth needs an appropriate supply at the property.

Packing the right adapter

Compatible C plugs generally fit directly. British G, North American A/B, Israeli H and other shapes need appropriate adapters; preserve earth when required.

An original interchangeable European charger head is convenient where supported. Do not alter plugs, remove pins or tolerate loose connections to avoid buying the right adapter.

Voltage and frequency

Supply is approximately 220V at 50Hz. An INPUT marking of 100–240V, 50/60Hz includes it. Check each item individually.

OUTPUT describes what a charger supplies to the device, not the acceptable wall voltage. This distinction matters for equipment bought in another region.

A 110V appliance needs more than a plug adapter

A plug adapter changes shape, not voltage. Equipment rated only for 110/120V needs a suitable manufacturer-approved solution rather than direct connection.

Heating appliances draw substantial power. Accommodation-provided hairdryers and kettles are often simpler than a small travel converter of uncertain suitability.

Hotel charging

Inspect the outlet and confirm active charging. A room card or switch may disconnect power; an older built-in USB outlet may be slow or unsuitable for a laptop.

A reputable multiport charger and suitable cables reduce luggage. Avoid chains of extensions and improvised heating loads. Stop using an unusually hot or damaged connection.

Tbilisi power interruptions

Telasi’s power-outage notices provide information for Tbilisi, particularly planned restrictions. They do not guarantee that every new fault is already listed.

This is not a nationwide Georgian outage service. Contact the property first when only your room is affected. Telasi lists +995 32 277 99 99 for enquiries; elsewhere, establish the local operator.

Rural backup

Ask remote guesthouses about available outlets and interruption backup before arrival. A charged phone power bank is useful after a day of mountain photography and navigation even without an outage.

Store maps, addresses and booking confirmations offline. Do not depend on a socket at every roadside stop or on rapid charging from an older rental vehicle.

Essential equipment and EVs

Medical devices or equipment requiring continuous cooling need a backup plan agreed with the manufacturer and accommodation. A property’s generator does not necessarily supply your room socket.

An EV needs an appropriate authorised charging facility. A phone’s Type F adapter is not vehicle charging equipment: check connector, power, payment and access separately.
