מבצר פטר ופול נבנה על ידיד פטר (או פיוטר) הגדול ב-1703 כמבצר הגנה צבאי. עם זאת, עד 1924 שימש המבצר בעיקר כבית סוהר לאסירים פוליטיים. מבני המבצר ניזוקו קשות במלחמת העולם השניה ושוחזרו אחרי המלחמה.
כיום מנוהל מצבר פטר ופול על ידי המוזיאון הלאומי להיסטוריה של סנט פטרסגורג, למעט המבנים המנוהלים על ידי המטבעה של סנט פטרסבורג.
המבצר נבנה על אי קטן שנקרא אי הארנב. תוכלו לראות כל מיני פסלי ארנבים מוצבים ברחבי המבצר.

במבצר ישנם מספר מבנים, בהם 15 מוזיאונים. הבניין החשוב ביותר על האי הוא קתדרלת פטר ופול שנבנתה בשנים 1712-1733 כאתר הקבורה של שושלת רומנוב - משפחת הצארים של רוסיה. הצלב שתלוי על גג הקתדרלה הוא בגובה 122.5 מטרים - הגובה ביותר בעיר. בנוסף, ניתן לראות כמה דברים מעניינים במבצר, מבלי להיכנס למוזיאונים: שערים, עמדות שמירה ועוד. שלטי הסבר מפוזרים בכל השטח.
קניתי כרטיס לטיול על חומת פטרובסקאיה, שיש לה תצפית פנורמית מרהיבה על נהר נווה ועל המבצר עצמו. משם, עם אותו הכרטיס, נכנסתי למעבר הסודי שנמצא בחומת המבצר - מנהרה באורך 97 מטרים המובילה לחדרון קטן בתוך החומה. נחמד.
למצבר יש חופים חוליים, שניתן להגיע אליהם באמצעות שער נווה. במהלך שיטוטיי, נתקלתי בפעם הראשונה בחיי באוטובוס-שירותים.
בשעה 12 בצהרים מתקיים טקס מסורתי של ירייה בתותח מחומת פטרובסקאיה.
ביקור במבצר יכול לארוך יום שלם ומהנה. קחו בחשבון שרוב המוזיאונים סגורים בימי רביעי.
