Canyon Sainte-Anne: a gentle loop with wonderful views

Canyon Sainte-Anne: a gentle loop with wonderful views

We went only partway down and still found the walk exceptionally rewarding.

Our walk at Canyon Sainte-Anne was very pleasant. We chose an unhurried loop and found the scenery exceptionally beautiful.

A 74-metre waterfall sits at the centre of the canyon. The river’s narrow channel, rock walls and bridges make the views feel different from a broad waterfall promenade.

Opened to visitors in 1973, the site uses paths and bridges to reveal the gorge from several positions. The infrastructure helps explain why the view changes as you move.

We did not go all the way down. We descended only to roughly the halfway point and followed a relaxed circular route.

Waterfall, cliffs, woodland and bridges are all part of the appeal. The succession of viewpoints made our partial route satisfying in its own right.

Wear appropriate shoes even for a gentle visit, and check path conditions. A relaxed pace does not remove the need to watch your footing.

The canyon can fit into a journey from Quebec City towards Charlevoix and Tadoussac. Allow enough time to enjoy it rather than making it a hurried roadside photograph.
