Toronto’s summer events: leave space for surprises

Some of our happiest moments came from events we encountered along the way.

One lesson from Toronto was to check what festivals are happening during a visit. Events added energy and unexpected experiences to places already on our route.
Festivals also say something about the city’s cultural variety. Music, food and celebrations bring different communities into shared public spaces.
We saw dancing and costumes opposite Eaton Centre, a country-style event in the Distillery District, activity by the waterfront and another event around Front Street. These were experiences from our particular dates.

They were not four permanent attractions for which every visitor should buy a ticket. Some were simply things we came across while exploring.

Check the city’s current events calendar before travelling, then confirm location, dates and any booking requirements for events that interest you.
Our recommendation is a mixture of preparation and flexibility: know what is on, but leave enough space to stop when something enjoyable is happening nearby.
Practical notes
Events and locations change from year to year.
Do not assume an event in our photographs is a daily attraction.
