Parc Oméga: animals, a driving route and woodland stops

A rewarding visit between Ottawa and the next part of our Quebec journey.

Parc Oméga, near Montebello, was an excellent stop as we travelled from the Ottawa area towards Quebec City.
Opened in 1991, the park’s concept brings visitors close to North American wildlife in a substantial natural setting. The landscape is an important part of the experience.

Much of the visit is by car. Animals approach vehicles, and feeding is permitted only for designated animals in designated ways. Follow the park’s current instructions rather than assuming every animal can be fed.
We saw a wide range of animals, including bears, wolves, wild boar, coyotes, skunks, bighorn sheep and deer. The variety kept the drive interesting.

We also made walking stops, crossed a suspended bridge and visited the trout-lake area. Getting out of the car added welcome variety.

The driving route is around 12 kilometres, but distance alone does not tell you how long to allow. Animals, pauses and walking sections determine the pace.

It is a substantial drive from Ottawa, roughly 80 kilometres, rather than an attraction in the city centre. Include that travel time in your plans.
Practical notes
Check current animal-feeding and vehicle rules.
A car rental is separate from park admission.
