Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle dominates the skyline. Its fortress, royal and military history are central to a visit, but for us the view was a highlight too. This is a large, popular site, so give yourself time to explore rather than rushing through.
Within the complex are military museums, the Royal Palace, the Great Hall and the Scottish National War Memorial.
We waited around half an hour for the Crown Jewels. Booking ahead saved us the ticket-purchase queue, not every queue inside the castle. Reserve on the castle website and check admission arrangements. For a guided experience, consider entry and a guided tour on Tiqets, checking the language and meeting point. A paid guided tour is an option, not a requirement for visiting.
The view from the castle is outstanding.
