Hakone Shrine and Lake Ashi on a Day Trip from Tokyo
Our October 2025 visit to Hakone Shrine and Lake Ashi on a Day Trip from Tokyo, with current visitor information and practical planning tips.

Our visit
On day four we joined an organized day tour from Tokyo. In Hakone we visited the forest shrine, descended to the lakeside torii and continued with a cruise on Lake Ashi.
Clouds hid Mount Fuji from us, yet the lake, forest and shrine still made the day varied. The organized tour removed the need to coordinate several transport connections.

What to know
Hakone Shrine stands in the Motohakone area and its Peace Torii rises from the water. Lake Ashi occupies a volcanic caldera, with Mount Fuji views from several points in clear weather.
Planning the visit
The queue for a photograph by the torii can be long on weekends. Independent visitors should check the sequence of buses, cruise and ropeway, plus same-day service updates.
For a wider route beyond the cities, compare transport and car-rental options in advance and decide what the itinerary actually requires.
