Thessaloniki Modiano Market

Modiano Market is part of Thessaloniki’s culinary and Jewish heritage. Architect Eli Modiano designed the building in the early 20th century. During our 2017 visit, we enjoyed wandering through the market district, looking at the stalls and soaking up the atmosphere. The photographs here show that visit, before the complex’s later changes.
Modiano underwent extensive restoration and reopened in December 2022. Its operator now announces another reopening in September 2026. Check the official opening, shop and activity information before visiting. Nearby Kapani is a separate market: not every stall or shop in the district is inside Modiano.
