Akihabara: Electronics, Games and Pop Culture

Our October 2025 visit to Akihabara, with current visitor information and practical planning tips.

Akihabara: Electronics, Games and Pop Culture

Our visit

After teamLab we continued to Akihabara, visiting game and electronics shops and the large Yodobashi store, where floors of equipment, toys and unfamiliar products can occupy hours.

This was less a single sight than a district discovered through its shops. Even non-collectors can see how closely anime, gaming and electronics are woven into local consumer culture.

What to know

The district centers on Akihabara Station and mixes large retailers with small shops for used components, figures and collectibles. Opening hours vary by business.

Planning the visit

Choose interests and a budget in advance; it is easy to lose focus. Tax-free purchases require a passport, and warranties may not apply outside Japan.

For a wider route beyond the cities, compare transport and car-rental options in advance and decide what the itinerary actually requires.
