Arashiyama Bamboo Grove: Beautiful, Short and Busy
Our October 2025 visit to Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, with current visitor information and practical planning tips.

Our visit
We began the day in Arashiyama and walked through the famous bamboo grove. The path is shorter than online photographs suggest, and at busy times it is difficult to find a people-free moment.
Even so, the height of the bamboo and filtered light create a distinctive scene. For us, combining it with the monkey park made more sense than traveling here for a single photograph.
What to know
The grove is a public path in the Saga-Arashiyama area, without admission or closing hours. The wider district also contains temples, a river and additional walks.
Planning the visit
Arrive around first light for quieter conditions, do not block the path for photographs and never touch or carve the bamboo.
For a wider route beyond the cities, compare transport and car-rental options in advance and decide what the itinerary actually requires.
