The CN Tower from outside: looking up at Toronto’s landmark

An exterior stop near the aquarium, not an account of the observation deck.

The CN Tower is hard to miss in Toronto. It appears repeatedly above the skyline as you walk around. We admired it from outside but did not go up.
At roughly 553 metres, the tower was built for more than sightseeing. Opened to the public in 1976, it helped address broadcasting problems created by the growing city’s tall buildings.

Even its construction has a memorable detail: a large helicopter nicknamed Olga lifted the upper antenna sections. Knowing that changes the way you look at the narrow structure overhead.
The regular observation-level visit and EdgeWalk are different activities. Anyone booking should check exactly which experience a ticket includes.
For us, the exterior view fitted naturally with Ripley’s Aquarium, immediately nearby. You can appreciate and photograph the tower without making an ascent part of your day.

We are not describing an experience from inside the tower. Check the available ticket types, weather and viewing conditions if you plan to go up.
