Girona's Old Town

The Old Town of Girona, also known as Barri Vell, is a special place with lots of history. Walking down its narrow stone streets, you'll see big, historic buildings and many interesting spots.

The Girona Cathedral is one famous spot. It's a large, beautiful building with many old art pieces. The giant staircase outside is very impressive too.

There's a historic Jewish neighborhood called El Call in the Old Town. It has many winding streets and an informative Museum of Jewish History.

The city walls offer beautiful views over the rooftops and surrounding landscape. They reflect several periods, with important medieval extensions alongside the Roman origins of the fortified city.

But Girona's Old Town isn't just about history. It's a great place for food and shopping too. You'll find many restaurants here serving local dishes. Try the tapas - small plates of food that you can share. And don't forget to taste "crema Catalana," a local dessert similar to creme brûlée.

Allow a few hours for the old town, with time for its historic sites, cafes and streets rather than rushing from one landmark to the next.
