White Tower of Thessaloniki

The White Tower is one of Thessaloniki’s best-known landmarks. The present building dates from the Ottoman 15th century. It also served as a prison and was whitewashed in the late 19th century, before 1912. Today its ground floor and six upper storeys present the city’s history.

Our favourite part was the view from the upper terrace. Access is by stairs; a virtual introduction to the exhibition is available on the ground floor for visitors who cannot climb. Check the official visitor and accessibility information, and make sure any admission ticket is for the tower itself.
