Saint Lazarus Church, Larnaka

Saint Lazarus Church stands in a square in central Larnaca. It was built in the ninth century under Byzantine Emperor Leo VI. Christian tradition holds that Lazarus came to Kition after being raised from the dead by Jesus, became the city’s bishop and was buried where the church now stands.

We found the interior beautiful, particularly the carved, gilded wooden iconostasis. The crypt can also be visited when open. Check the current visitor information, dress respectfully and be considerate during worship. Combine the visit with the castle and Finikoudes promenade.
