Our visit

On our day trip from Kyoto to Osaka, we began with a mochi-making experience in Dotonbori. Working with the dough and its quick rhythm gave us a shared activity rather than another photo stop.

We then walked beside the canal and among the giant signs. The district is loud, commercial and crowded, yet in the evening that energy is precisely its appeal.

What to know

Dotonbori is a major dining and entertainment district in Minami, developed around the canal and known for oversized restaurant signs and evening lights.

Book workshops in advance. Save the street walk for late afternoon and evening, while visitors sensitive to crowds may prefer a weekday.
