Our visit

After markets and busy streets we reached Osaka Castle. For us, the exterior view above the walls and moats was the most impressive element.

The park is large and the walk from the station to the tower is longer than it first appears. It gave a relatively calm ending to a day full of food and lights.

What to know

Toyotomi Hideyoshi built the original castle in the late sixteenth century. The present tower is a modern reconstruction housing a museum, while the walls and moats represent different historical layers.

Planning the visit

Decide in advance whether to enter the museum or focus on the park and exterior. Allow time for walking and check admission hours on the official site.
