The Long Market in Gdansk

Długi Targ, the Long Market, is one of the loveliest places for a walk in Gdańsk’s historic centre. We returned by day and after dark, and recommend seeing both. It belongs to the Main Town, Główne Miasto, rather than the separate district called the Old Town, Stare Miasto.

The Green Gate

the royal residence from the 16th century now houses the National Museum in Gdansk. One of the rooms also served the former Polish President and the leader of Solidarity movement Lech Lech Wałęsa (Spelled: Valensa).

The Golden Gate

Built in the early 17th century at one end of the Long Market. It Destroyed during WWII and was reconstructed in 1957.

Neptune's Fountain

Neptune’s Fountain was installed in the Long Market in 1633 and has been restored several times.

Fahrenheit Monument

The scientist Daniel Fahrenheit, who invented the Fahrenheit temperature scale, was born in Gdansk. To his honor, the city represents an antique thermometer in the center of its most famous street.

Alongside the colourful façades are Neptune’s Fountain and Artus Court. The Green Gate stands at one end, with the river beyond. The Main Town Hall marks the junction with Długa Street. St Mary’s Basilica is a short walk away, not on the Long Market itself.

There are also lots of street artists playing on the street.

I think it's better to visit here at least twice, by daytime and night, to get the whole impression of this beautiful place.
