- The Skulls Chapel of Milano
The San Bernardino alle Ossa catholic church is mainly known for its ossuary – a side chapel covered with human bones and skulls. At the beginning of the 13th century, the local cemetery ran out of space, so they built an ossuary to store the bones. The church was built later next to the ossuary. After the fire of 1712, the church was rebuilt and dedicated to Saint Bernardino of Siena. The chapels display paintings from the 16th-18th centuries. At the end of the 17th century, the ossuary's doors and walls were decorated with bones and skulls. It's an exciting and horrifying sight.
- Da Vinci's "The Last Supper" and the Santa Maria delle Grazie Church in Milan
For five years (1494-1498), Leonardo da Vinci painted one of his most important and famous works: "The Last Supper." The painting adorns a wall in the dining room of the Dominican convent built by the Sforza family in Milan. It depicts one of the most critical scenes in the New Testament and the founding events in Christianity - Christ's Last Supper with his disciples on Passover Eve. At the same time as Da Vinci, Giovanni Donato painted at the opposite wall the fresco "The Crucifixion," which depicts saints from the Dominican convent against the backdrop of the city of Jerusalem. During World War II, the monastery walls were covered with sandbags, which preserved the masterpieces even though the monastery itself was bombed and damaged in 1943. The church and "The Last Supper" have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is highly recommended to purchase tickets in advance online. Quite a few frustrated tourists stood outside the reception without tickets. Enjoy 🤗
- Sforzesco Castle (Castello Sforzesco)
Sforzesco Castle (Castello Sforzesco) is a magnificent royal fortress in the 15th century by Francesco I Sforza, the duke of Milan. In the 16th century, this was one of the largest fortresses in Europe. At the end of the 19th century, the fortress was rebuilt and there are various museums in the castle, that show works of Renaissance art. There are also design galleries and sculptures, furniture, war instruments, and more. The selection is enormous, and you must devote at least several hours to tour the castle. Enjoy🤗
- Sempione Park (Parco Sempione)
Park Sempione is next to the Sforzesco Castle (Castello Sforzesco). The park has lovely paths where you can walk, run, or ride. There are ponds with ducks and the place is amazing. In Autumn the color of the leaves is beautiful yellow-red brown. They fall down on the people in the park, exactly like in the movies, and it is incredible. At the end of the park, you will find Forta Sempione, which resembles Arc de Triomphe in Paris. I believe it is one of the most beautiful parks in Milan. Enjoy🤗
- la Rinascente Department Store
By December, Milan’s stores are already decorating for Christmas. I got the full Christmas experience on the 6th floor of the luxurious department store la Rinascente, located in Piazza del Duomo ("Cathedral Square"). An entire floor is entirely dedicated to Christmas decorations, Christmas trees in different colors, snow, and Santa Claus. The highlight is a model made of an obscure material (neither Lego nor Playmobil) of a town at Christmas. The level of precision in creating this scale model is insane - the mother opening her arms for a hug, figures in the carousel, children skating on the ice - how colorful and beautiful - just stunning. Enjoy🤗
- The Navigli Canal District
The Navigli Canal District is a charming and popular neighborhood with several Venetian-style canals. There are galleries, boutiques, restaurants, cafes, and churches. In the evening everything is bright and beautiful. On weekends on both sides of the canals, there are booths with knickknacks. Many people sit in restaurants and cafés, and the atmosphere is fun. You can reach The Navigli Canal District on foot from the city center. That's what we did - from The Duomo Square, we walked there and then back as well. Enjoy🤗
- Duomo di Milano
The most impressive cathedral in Milan. It is located at the heart of the city in Piazza del Duomo. It is a vast and beautiful Gothic cathedral. The archbishop sits in it, and it was built since the 14th century. The Duomo square is surrounded by shops and shopping complexes (for example, the Vittorio Emanuel complex with luxury shops). In the square, you will usually also find various street performances. Hundreds of pigeons and the millions of tourists who arrive here like to be photographed with them every year. The cathedral itself is stunning and very impressive. You need to buy a ticket to get in. We purchased a ticket that includes a tour inside and on the roof in advance. The church is enormous, and, in its basement, there are many archeological items. The ascent to the rooftop is by elevator, and the walk on the roof is stunning. The entire square is visible from the rooftop. You should arrive in the daytime and again at nighttime. Enjoy🤗
- La Scala Opera House
La Scala Opera House (Teatro alla Scala) is very impressive from the outside and inside. It is located in front of a small square with one of the beautiful sculptures of Leonardo da Vinci - the darling of the city. Inside there is a museum that opera lovers can enjoy. We are not opera lovers, but we enjoyed the beautiful museum, the exhibits, and the large and magnificent rooms. The highlight is the hall. It is vast, impressive, a great combination of red with black. We sat in the cells and felt as if we were watching an opera for a moment. And by the time we got out, the sun had already set, and both the Opera House and Leonardo were so beautiful. Enjoy🤗
- Cafes in Milan
Milan, of course, has dozens of excellent cafes. Here are some of my favorites: Rinaldini A small cafe next to the opera. Wonderfully shaped cakes and excellent small sandwiches. Luini Panzerotti Although not a cafe but a must-stop. Near the Duomo, you will find this small place. It looks unimpressive, but the entrance queue will make it clear that you have come to the right place. Here you buy a kind of donut stuffed with mozzarella. It is insanely delicious. There are also other toppings, but to my taste, the classic is the most delicious. DO’NCOLA A lovely cafe that serves the local delicacy - a crispy dough that wraps whipped cream with ricotta and dipped in both ends in pistachios or nuts or grated chocolate. Bianco Latte A beautiful cafe with a back room where you can sit. It is stunningly designed. Part of the place is a quality toy store. Pave Milan A name that came up several times in the culinary research I did for Milan. It was indeed good. It is a tiny cafe, excellent coffee, and a wonderful pastry with a sweet apple in the center. The dining floor in the la Rinascente department store A celebration for the foodies. An entire floor is dedicated to food - everything you could want in mini booths and as a deli. It wasn’t easy to decide what to choose. Enjoy🤗
- Warner Bros. Studio Tour
In the 1920s, some film production companies settled in the Hollywood neighborhood to get the advantage of the comfortable weather and extended light hours. As a result, Hollywood became the center and the symbol of the American film industry. As such, a person visiting Los Angeles must take a tour of one of the studios - to see firsthand how they create this fantastic illusion that fascinates us repeatedly. So we took the tour of Warner Bros. Studio. Liat, as a fan of "Gilmour Girls," was very excited about seeing the shooting sites of the show. We joined a two-and-a-half-hour tour, during which a guide and small group travel by electric vehicle between the different sites in the studio complex. First, we heard stories about movies, TV series, and scenes that were produced here. Next, we went to one of the studios, which they call Stages, to see how it looks behind the camera. Finally, we visited displays of Super-Hero's actual outfits and Batman's unique vehicles. The tour ends in a big display center with the set of "Friends" show. The staff there helps you take a picture of the Central Perk Café. Also, there is an exhibition that shows the steps in creating a movie, from screenwriting and casting until post-production. It was fun and exciting.
- Jerome C. Daniel Overlook Above The Hollywood Bowl
Jerome C. Daniel Overlook has an excellent view of Los Angeles. A light climb up the stairs leads to a vantage point on the Hollywood sign.
- Hollywood Forever Cemetery
The Hollywood Forever Cemetery was founded in 1899, and it's one of the oldest in Los Angeles. It was my first stop in LA. I had to go to the grave of my favorite musician Chris Cornell – the lead singer and guitar player of Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the dog, and many solo rock songs that have accompanied me since high school in the ninetieth. His death by suicide shocked me. We parked inside the cemetery and walked around until we found Cornell's tombstone in the Garden of Legends. We took a walk between the gravestones, trying to see if there is someone we know. We saw the memorial of Toto from the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz." By the way, I've been in lots of cemeteries around the world, but here I saw something unique: Jews and non-Jews are buried together. Usually, there are buried in distinctive graveyards.
